Robust Superhydrophobic Coating with Mullite Fiber Framework

Superhydrophobic surfaces have received increasing attention due to their excellent water repellency, but the fragile stability of superhydrophobic coatings has been a huge hindrance applications. In this work, we constructed layer mullite fibers on surface ceramic substrate using high-temperature molten salt. Then, obtained with contact angle greater than 150° via soaking sample an alcoholic sol containing modified particles. On one hand, interlaced three-dimensional fiber structure increases area and roughness, providing more locations for attaching particles, as well improving repellency. other height difference, which protects particles attached at lower positions, when external object contacts surface, it gives priority stable fibers, reducing direct between objects coating. After abrasion sandpaper, showed compared samples without layer, indicating significant protective effect layer. This paper provides potential method enhance surfaces.
